At Love Success, we understand the unique demands and rewards of PA jobs in London. Balancing the professional and personal life of a PA can be challenging but equally fulfilling. Here's Barb’s account of a day in the life of a PA to an ultra-high-net-worth individual (UHNWI).
6:00 AM - Morning routine
The alarm buzzes at 6:00 AM, and I start my day with a quick workout session. Staying fit is crucial for keeping up with the hectic demands of my job. After a refreshing shower and a nutritious breakfast, I check my emails and messages for any overnight updates or urgent tasks.
7:30 AM – Early office hours
By 7:30 AM, I’m at the office – yes it’s early! One of the perks of my job is living on site in a fabulous apartment within the family’s home. I begin by organising the day’s schedule for my employer, ensuring all meetings, calls, and appointments are perfectly timed and there are no overlaps. Coordination is key, and I liaise with various departments to confirm arrangements.
9:00 AM – Some time for myself
My hours are far from standard. So, I take some time out. I wander down to my local café and enjoy a relaxing coffee in the sunshine. I then head back to the apartment and do some food preps for my freezer. I’ll be working late to today so my boss is keen I take this time.
11:00 AM - Juggling tasks
Late mornings are typically a mix of tasks – managing correspondence, preparing reports, and handling any ad-hoc requests. PA jobs in London require flexibility and the ability to switch gears quickly. Today, I’m also coordinating travel plans for an upcoming business trip, ensuring all details are meticulously arranged.
1:00 PM - Lunch break
A lunch break isn’t always possible, but today it is. Sometimes, it’s a quick bite at my desk, while other times it’s a chance to catch up with others on the team. I love living in central London as there’s a market just around the corner with fantastic street food stall. I buy me and my boss some bao buns and head back to the office.
2:00 PM - Afternoon duties
Afternoons can be a whirlwind. Today, I’m organising a high-profile dinner event. This involves liaising with caterers, finalising the guest list, and ensuring security measures are in place. My job often involves event planning, which is both challenging and rewarding. Attention to detail is paramount, as even the smallest oversight can have significant repercussions.
4:00 PM - Personal tasks
Balancing professional and personal life means sometimes handling personal errands for my employer and myself. This could range from personal shopping to arranging family schedules. Today, I’m tasked with finding the perfect gift for a client, a job that requires both discretion and an eye for luxury. I combine it with picking up a birthday card for my friend.
6:00 PM - Wrapping up, but not quite
I prepare a briefing for the next day. I also update schedules and set some reminders for tomorrow. I touch base with my boss about the event tonight and agree to meet her there.
7:30 PM - Dinner event
This evening, I’m attending the dinner event I’ve planned. It’s important to be present to ensure everything runs smoothly. My role here is both professional and social – managing logistics while also networking and representing my employer.
10:00 PM - Homeward bound
By 10:00 PM, I’m finally heading home. Once home, I unwind with a book and a bath. With a late work night, I can have a late start tomorrow.
