Today, we’ve got the spotlight on the unique and rewarding role of a Personal Assistant in the charity sector. We chatted to Tamsin, a recent Love Success candidate, to share a glimpse into a typical day in this fulfilling job.
Tamsin’s story
6:30 AM – Rise and Shine
My day as a PA starts early. By 6:30 AM, I'm up and getting ready for the day ahead. After a quick breakfast and a strong cup of coffee, I pack my bad and get ready for the day.
8:00 AM – Commute
Living in London means dealing with the hustle and bustle of public transport. I use this time to catch up on any urgent emails and ensure I'm up-to-date with the latest news related to our charity’s work. Arriving at the office by 8:45 AM, I'm ready to get going.
9:00 AM – Morning Briefing
My first task is the morning briefing with the charity’s executive team. I prepare meeting notes, distribute agendas, and ensure all necessary materials are available. Today, we're discussing a new fundraising campaign. As the PA, my role is to take detailed minutes and follow up on action items.
10:30 AM – Correspondence and Scheduling
Once the meeting concludes, I spend the next hour managing correspondence. This includes replying to emails, scheduling appointments, and coordinating with various stakeholders. PA jobs require exceptional organisational skills, and in the charity sector, this is even more critical as we liaise with donors, volunteers, and beneficiaries.
12:00 PM – Lunch Break
I usually take a quick lunch break around noon. Often, this is a time to enjoy the London streets around our office. I head out for a browse in the shops with a colleague.
1:00 PM – Event Planning
The afternoon is dedicated to planning our next big event. This involves coordinating with vendors, booking venues, and ensuring all logistical details are covered. The charity sector often relies on events for fundraising and awareness, making this a crucial part of my role. I enjoy the challenge of bringing everything together seamlessly.
3:00 PM – Executive Support
I move on to preparing documents and presentations for the executive director’s upcoming meetings. This includes financial reports, donor profiles, and strategic plans.
4:30 PM – Team Collaboration
Later in the afternoon, I join a quick team meeting to brainstorm new outreach strategies. This collaborative environment is one of the things I love most about working in the charity sector. Everyone is passionate about making a difference, and it’s inspiring to be part of such a dedicated team.
5:00 PM – Wrapping Up
Before leaving the office, I ensure all loose ends are tied up, and important documents are organised.
5:30 PM – Homeward Bound
It’s been a busy day but knowing that my work supports a greater cause gives me immense satisfaction. My commute home is spent reading my book to wind down!
