All recruitment agencies in London will tell you one thing: temp work is currently more viable than a permanent position. Due to a winter of uncertainty caused by Covid and Brexit, businesses are increasingly using temporary workers to meet their talent needs. Yes, there are permanent roles available, but temping offers more choice.

Don’t worry, temping isn’t a “second-best” option. We spoke to a range of Love Success temps to find out what work they’re doing.

“My current role is as a Team PA,” Toni explained. “My contract is for three months, but I think it’ll be extended. The business is based in the City, but I’ve only been to the office a handful of times. I mostly work from home. I schedule meetings, manage diaries, organise inboxes, and respond to some communication. I’m enjoying the work and hope that it will become long term.”

Steve has been working as a management accountant for a few months. “I’m ACA qualified,” he told us, “so I’m really happy to have found a role that matches my skills after being made redundant in July. I undertake various analyses and prepare reports after completing the necessary processing. It’s my job to manage the company accounts, ensuring that the business is financially healthy in these trying times. I also prepare VAT payments and records each month and chase payments where necessary. It’s a rewarding role, and I feel as if I’m contributing to the business.”

Sanjay is a marketing executive, currently working in a temporary role from home. “I’m working in marketing for a fashion house,” he said. “Although I’ve had a few marketing roles before, this is quite a different environment. It’s a very creative industry, so the marketing approach needs to reflect that. I’m working with others to devise campaigns. I love it and hope I can stay with the company for some time to come.”

“I’m a private PA to a professional couple who live in central London,” Aisha explained. “Their individual roles have been very time-consuming due to Covid, so they’ve recruited me to help them manage. I’ve had PA roles within businesses before, so this is a little different, but I really enjoy it. I can see how I’m making a difference to the couple and their family life. I’ve also learned so many new skills, and my CV has never developed so quickly!”

Spencer is working as an HR assistant. “I’ve never worked in HR before, but I have been an office assistant for a long time. I was offered this role, and although I took it just because I needed a job, it’s made me now consider HR as a career move. I’m gaining skills, and I enjoy being at the heart of the business. Although I’m on a temporary contract, my boss has been talking to me about future prospects and even getting my HR qualifications.”
