So, how did you find your current position?
Well, I was someone who bounced between a lot of jobs to try and find what worked for me. It wasn’t an easy task by any means, and I searched through many PA jobs in London and did lots of temporary jobs. Then I found Love Success, and they helped me find a role working for the director of a company as her PA. It was an exceptionally challenging role at first, but one that I’ve come to love.
What advice would you give people looking for a role like yours?
My advice boils down to three steps. These are pretty much what I did to get where I am today.
First of all, work in as many places as you can, which is a lot easier if you do temporary jobs, as you can try more things. Looks out for jobs that challenge you. The skillset I developed working in different areas … problem-solving, multitasking ... served me so well when it came to working as a high-level PA.
Great, and what is your second piece of advice?
Don't be afraid to put yourself out there! It was only because I relished the challenge and had a passion for improving myself that I managed to get as high as I did. I learned as much as I could and went above and beyond wherever possible. I applied for whatever opportunities came up and challenged myself.
And what’s the third step?
Thirdly, give everything you do 100%. I wasn't aware of it at first, but my boss was collecting all these little facts about me and creating an image. How I spoke to other people, what I made a priority. Throughout everything, I tried to be as professional and hard-working as I could. You control the image you create for other people to see, and it can be anything you want it to be—good or bad. I chose to make my image one of a hardworking and positive person, because that was how I wanted to present myself.
And finally, how would you advise people to progress in their career?
It's easy to see why people aim for a high-ranking job within the PA sector, and it is possible. It's not always a straightforward path, but it is a very rewarding one. People can go far in this industry, but they have to make sure that they are gaining all of the required skills along the way and also establishing the kind of person they want to be in the workplace.
