Are You Going to Look for a New Job in 2021?

It’s New Year! With vaccines and better testing hopes on the horizon, and a sense that despite Christmas being very different this year, some degree of normality will return with the spring, we thought we’d find out about people’s career plans for next year. As a London recruitment agency finding candidates permanent and temporary jobs in London, we know it’s definitely time for some optimism as we look forwards. We chatted to those in office support jobs in London to ask whether they’re planning on staying put or moving on.

We’re on the move!

“I’ve been holding fire with my job hunt whilst everything was so uncertain, but come 2021 I’m determined to stop putting life on hold,” Harry told us. “Things are only going to improve next year, and there’s nowhere for me to progress to within my current role as HR admin in a small team. I’m going to be looking for HR advisor roles from January.”

Rob works in financial services. “I don’t expect it’s going to be as easy as the last time I made a job change,” he says. “But yes, I’m going to start looking for something new in the New Year. That said, I’m prepared to take my time to find the right opportunity — I don’t want to just accept any role because the media is telling us we should. I want to find the right opportunity for me.”

Mohammed was made redundant in November. “Ultimately, I feel like I’ve sacrificed enough for this virus; it’s time to get going again and get my career back on track,” he says. “I’m using the end of December to spend time with my family, and then I’ll be job hunting in earnest.”

“If I’m honest I’m tired,” Sarah told us. “I’m tired of working from home, and I’m tired of the same routine day-in-day-out. So I’ve decided to look for temporary jobs in London. I need a change. I want to shake things up a bit and bring some differences into my life, and I think temping is a way I can do this.”

We’re holding fire

“I want to change jobs. I feel ready to, but I think I’m going to hold on just a little longer,” Bhavna explained. “I think if I can wait until the spring, then there’ll be more opportunities, and I’ll be less likely to make a rushed decision. At the moment, I feel like I want to leave where I am because of all the coronavirus changes, but that might all be different by April.”

“I’ve been made redundant, so there’s a sense of pressure,” Chris said, “but I just don’t think now is the best time to make decisions. I’ve got the buffer-zone of my redundancy payment, so I’m going to do some temporary jobs in London if needed but bide my time about the next big move.”
