Love Success asked if I’d write for them about my experience of temping in London. I jumped at the chance because I think it’s a really underrated career option and I want to spread the word!
I started out doing temporary jobs in London back in 2019, just before the pandemic. My first position was in customer service. I had previously worked in an admin role for a year since leaving school, but I was feeling a little unsure about what I really wanted to do and so decided to make a change.
I soon discovered that there is an enormous range of temporary jobs in London, specifically within office support. Everyone always talks about temping referring to it as if it’s just about hospitality or retail. But there are so many more temping roles that are office based. It seemed a good way to try out some different options.

Getting the right experience by temping in London
It’s through Love Success that I discovered that temping is an excellent way to get the experience you need to get future jobs. But also the experience I needed to build a CV and also discover what I actually wanted to do. I’m a good all-rounder, so it’s been hard to settle on what suits me best. Love Success has also helped with offering training in areas I need to improve, so that’s good too. In fact, I’ve found that working with Love Success, my confidence has grown as I feel like I have someone in my career corner.
I’ve done a range of temporary jobs in London now. These have ranged from a few days to nine months. I’ve worked from home, in the office, and even accompanied someone on a business trip to Dubai which was pretty exciting! I’ve discovered which roles suit me, and feel like my career has come on leaps and bounds. I feel much surer of what I want to do with my life, even down to things like the work-life balance which is most effective for me. You can manage that better with temping because you can always take time out between placements, as well as accrue holiday pay within them.
Choosing to temp in London longer term
I’ve considered permanent placements from time to time, but for now, I’m happy building my career as a temp. I love temping in London. I’ve used the flexibility to benefit a good work-life balance but at the same time I feel that I’ve gained more experience in less time. Temps in office support remain in high demand in London, and so for now, that’s what I’m doing!
