We know it’s really helpful to hear first-hand from candidates doing different roles. It gives you insight to consider if the role is for you and clarity on what the job really entails. Today, we share with you a Day in the Life account of Vikashne, a talented project manager working in one of the largest companies in the city.

Vikashne's perspective:

As a project manager, I am responsible for overseeing multiple projects, ensuring their successful execution, and delivering exceptional results. Let me take you through a typical day in my work life.

8:30 am – Kick-starting the day

I arrive at my office, located in The City. The first thing I do is review my schedule, check my emails, and prioritise my tasks for the day. And have a coffee! It's essential to start the day with a clear plan and focus on what needs to be accomplished.

10:00 am – Team collaboration

One of the highlights of my role is collaborating with my amazing project team. We gather for a morning catch-up, discussing the progress we've made, any potential challenges we're facing, and the upcoming deadlines. I truly value the diverse skills and perspectives my team members bring to the table. It’s good to get together and communicate.

11:30 am – Client meeting

Meeting with clients is an integral part of my job. Today, I have a client meeting to provide project updates and address any concerns they may have. Building strong relationships with clients is crucial as it fosters trust and ensures that their expectations are met. We come up with some adjustments to the project. It's satisfying to see their confidence and satisfaction with our progress.

1:00 pm – Lunchtime networking

During lunch, I seize the opportunity to network with other professionals in the industry. Today, I'm attending a working lunch for women in business. These networking events provide a valuable platform for me to meet potential collaborators, and get my name out. It’s a very supportive atmosphere.

2:30 pm – Project planning and execution

After lunch, I dedicate my time to project planning and execution. I develop detailed project timelines, assign tasks to team members, and closely monitor progress. The nature of project management involves navigating challenges and adapting to unforeseen circumstances. My strong organisational skills and ability to handle complexity come into play as I keep the project on track.

4:00 pm – Stakeholder engagement

Effective stakeholder management is critical for project success. In the afternoon, I meet with project stakeholders to ensure their needs are met and their feedback is incorporated into the project. By actively involving stakeholders and addressing their concerns, I maintain strong relationships and build trust. It's important to foster collaboration and create a shared sense of ownership.

5:30 pm – Reflection and future planning

As the day winds down, I take some time to reflect on the day's accomplishments and identify areas for improvement. I review project metrics, analyse data, and identify opportunities to streamline processes.

Being a project manager in London is truly exhilarating and rewarding.
