Do you prefer working in big or small companies as a PA?

Are you considering a career as a personal assistant (PA) in London? One of the key decisions you will face is whether to work in a big or small company. While both options have their advantages and drawbacks, the decision ultimately comes down to personal preference.

Love Success, a leading recruitment agency for office support jobs in London, spoke to several PAs about their experiences working in both big and small companies. Here’s what they had to say:

The energy of big companies

For those who thrive in a fast-paced environment, big companies offer plenty of excitement and opportunities for growth. “I love the energy of a big company,” says Sarah, a PA at a multinational corporation in London. “There’s always something going on, and you’re constantly learning and growing.” PAs in big companies may have a broader range of responsibilities, working with multiple teams and managing complex projects.

"Working for a big company gives me access to more opportunities for career growth and professional development," says Joel, a PA at a multinational corporation. "I also appreciate the defined structure and clear job expectations."

The personalised character of small companies

However, some PAs prefer the intimacy and flexibility of small companies. “I love being a big fish in a small pond,” says Emily, a PA at a boutique PR firm. “In a small company, you have a more personal relationship with your colleagues, and you can see the direct impact of your work.” PAs in small companies may have a more narrow scope of responsibilities, but they often have more autonomy and the ability to wear multiple hats.

One London-based PA, Amna, shared her experience working for a small business: "I love the fact that I can get to know everyone in the company and feel like a valued member of the team. There's also a lot of flexibility in terms of my role - I'm not limited to just administrative tasks, I get to pitch in on other projects too."

Finding what’s right for you

Ultimately, the decision to work in a big or small company comes down to personal preference and career goals. “It’s important to think about what you want to achieve in your career,” says recruitment specialist, Annie. “If you’re looking for rapid growth and the chance to work with a diverse range of people, a big company might be the right fit for you. If you prefer a close-knit team and the opportunity to take on more responsibility, a small company might be a better match.”
