Signs You’ve Outgrown Your Current Job

Whether you work as a PA, EA, receptionist, or something else entirely, there may come a time in your working life when you outgrow your current job. If you’ve hit a wall at work, it might be a sign that it’s time to move on and find a new role. At our top London recruitment agency, we want everyone to be love their jobs, so we’ll let you in on the signs that it’s time to make a move.

You’re not utilising your skillset

If you’ve gained a wealth of experience in your role but the projects you’re given don’t make the most of your skills and knowledge, you may have outgrown your job. You need to be in a position that allows you to develop new skills and really stretch yourself on a regular basis.

You can’t see where you’re going

If the company you work for is small and isn’t growing, you may not see opportunities for promotion. If your skill set is unique, you might not be given the opportunity to learn from a mentor within the organisation. If your role involves carrying out a variety of tasks, it may be difficult for you to build a clear skill set. So, if you’re struggling to see where your current job is taking you, it may be that you’re ready for something new.

You can see where you’re going, and it’s not at your current job

If you have a vision of your future career and it doesn’t fit with your current job or requires a new level of experience, it’s a good sign that you need to move on. While there doesn’t need to be a straight line between where you are now and where you’re going, it helps if they are linked. For example, if you currently work in PA jobs but eventually want to work as a private PA for a celebrity or HNWI, it makes sense to seek out PA jobs in London that have private support included to gain the experience you need.

You watch the clock

Whatever job you work in—be it PA jobs, receptionist roles, or office support jobs, you should enjoy what you do! Even when it’s challenging, you should want more. Everyone’s guilty of clock watching every so often, but if you’ve started to spend a lot of your time at work doing it, it’s a sure sign that you’re ready for something new. It may be that you’ve become disinterested in your work or you just don’t find it challenging enough.

Your body is telling you so

Your body has a way of telling you what’s going on, even your brain isn’t ready to see it just yet. If your body feels out of balance and you’ve started to experience headaches, back or muscle aches, or changes in sleep or eating patterns, it may be a sign that something’s not quite right. These physical signals could be indicating that you’re due a holiday, but they might also be your body telling you that it’s time for a new job.
